Research Technician I, Microbiome

Job Summary:

Zymo Research is seeking a highly motivated individual to join our Microbiomics Research & Development team as a Research Technician I. This is an exciting opportunity for someone interested in exploring cutting-edge methods and technologies and applications in the fields of microbiome research and Next Generation Sequencing.

As a Research Technician I, you will be mentored by industry veterans from our Microbiomics R&D group. The qualified individual will be responsible for initiating and completing various assigned projects. In this role, you will work collaboratively with other team members to design and execute proof of principle studies and develop products for use in the field of microbiomics.

The ideal candidate should be a self-motivated learner, an effective team player, and possess a strong interest in chemistry, microbiology, biochemistry, and next generation sequencing. The successful candidate should also have experience in microbiology, chemistry, and molecular biology laboratory techniques. 

This position is full-time and is based in the Zymo Research R&D Headquarters in Irvine, California.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Independently design and conduct scientific experiments for product development, performance troubleshooting, and protocol optimization.
  • Perform nucleic acid purification, qPCR, library preparation and buffer manufacturing as assigned.
  • Assist with data collection and data interpretation.
  • Careful and accurate documentation of work.
  • Preventative maintenance of laboratory equipment.
  • Analyze and interpret data to obtain insights for project progressing.
  • Provide recommendations to the team leader on the next steps of the assigned projects.
  • Keep current with project pertaining literature and apply relevant findings to ongoing research projects.
  • Collaborate with other R&D team members to further multifaceted projects.
  • Technical support for incoming customer inquiries.
  • Work closely with internal subject matter experts, product managers, marketing, and manufacturing on microbiomics products and services related technical details.
  • Project presentation to upper-level management, technical review committee, marketing and sales organization.

Education and Experience:

  • BS or MS in Biology, Microbiology, Biochemistry, Chemistry, Molecular Biology, or related field.
  • Experience performing molecular and cell biology techniques, including PCR, qPCR, nucleic acid purification, microbial culturing, plating and basic microscopy are preferred.
  • A proven track record of designing, executing, analyzing, documenting, and troubleshooting laboratory experiments.
  • Excellent communication skills, both verbal and written.
  • Attention to details and accuracy.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products.

Compensation:

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $24 per hour - $28 per hour at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
