Position Title: Technical Manufacturing and QC Manager

Location: Irvine, CA

Reports To: General Manager of Operations

Summary/Contribution of Position:

The Technical Manufacturing and Quality Control Manager oversees the manufacturing of Zymo Research’s chemicals, buffers, and other product-related components to ensure consistent product performance. Responsible for overseeing quality control tests on various chemicals, buffers, and other product-related components. Ensure that final products meet the standards and processes set by Zymo Research’s established quality standards and ISO 9001:2015.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
1. Manufacturing
  • Interfaces with product managers to standardize chemical, buffer, and cold reagents (ex: enzymes, proteins, NGS library prep kits, etc) manufacturing procedures.
  • Oversee manufacture and may assist in bulk chemicals, buffers, and cold reagents for use in Zymo Research’s products.
  • Forecast amounts of chemicals and reagents to be manufactured.
  • Ensure bulk chemical supplies and other raw materials are maintained.
  • Trains Technical Manufacturing and QC Associate to manufacture products.
  • Resolves issues and overcomes obstacles to ensure successful events; uses independent judgment to resolve unique challenges that arise with each event.
  • Drive compliance for the department and work to investigate and resolve issues, challenges, or customer complaints.
  • Foresee potential issues or areas for improvement and initiate the optimization and implementation of those processes.
  • Maintains clear, complete, and accurate accounts of all manufacturing through the appropriate use of Batch Data Records, lab notebooks, summary reports, and work order documentation.
2. Product Quality Control
  • Interfaces with product managers to standardize quality control processes specific to each product.
  • Hire and trains Technical Manufacturing and QC Associate on carrying out Quality Control SOP and documentation procedures.
  • Oversees that products are queued, processed, and released in a timely manner.
  • Initiate and implement appropriate experiments according to the SOP to accept or reject the release of product(s) and other related product components.
  • Ensure products maintain consistent performance by implementing appropriate experiments according to the SOP.
  • Analyze quality control experiments results to accept or reject product release.
  • Drive compliance for the department and work to investigate and resolve issues, challenges, or customer complaints.
  • Foresee potential issues or areas for improvement and initiate the optimization and implementation of those processes.
  • Keep a clear, complete, and accurate account of all product quality control testing through the appropriate use of Batch Data Records, lab notebooks, summary reports, and work order documentation.
3. Communicates and work on strategic planning with other essential operation departments (Manufacturing, Customer Service, Warehouse/Shipping, Quality Assurance, etc)
4. Other duties as assigned as emerging growth company it may be required from time to time to assist in other areas other than the area of specialty
Education and Experience
  • Bachelors, Masters, or Ph. D degree in Biochemistry, Microbiology, Genetics, Immunology, Virology, Molecular Biology or a related field.
  • 2-3 years of manufacturing experience and management.
