Zymo Research and BaseClear Bring State-of-the-Art EpiQuest™ Methylome Sequencing Technology to Europe

Zymo Research, a specialist in the field of epigenetics for nearly a decade, has entered into a new collaboration with BaseClear to offer a unique Epigenetic Biomarker Discovery Service in Europe.

Orange, California, USA and Leiden, The Netherlands, Oct. 19th , 2011 — In collaboration with Zymo Research, BaseClear is now able to offer methylome analysis, which yields the DNA methylation profile of an entire genome (at a genomic scale). BaseClear customers will already be familiar with Zymo Research through the laboratory products (reagents) that constitute part of BaseClear’s lab product portfolio. Last year, Zymo Research developed a new method which combines next generation sequencing and bioinformatics with their well-established bisulfite technologies for comprehensive DNA methylation analysis (EpiQuest™). With the EpiQuest™ service Zymo Research and BaseClear are the first to offer a complete and extensive DNA methylation service based on next generation technology to the market.

European researchers can now make use of this service via BaseClear. Customers can opt for a basic variant that provides next generation sequencing data aligned with a reference genome (through three UCSC genome browser tracks), and a full service variant, which includes comprehensive bioinformatics analysis. Advantages of this new service include: precise quantitation, single nucleotide resolution, low DNA input, applicable to a broad range of sample sources, consolidated data delivery, and more. Customized services can, of course, always be provided upon request. Determining DNA methylation patterns on a genomic scale and discovering new epigenetic biomarkers are now feasible.

Dr. L. Jia, Zymo Research says: “The services should have a profound impact on candidate biomarker discovery and how we diagnose disease. Further, these technologies should make available the creation of companion diagnostics that coincide with therapeutic development. We are excited with this collaboration with which we hope to expand the epigenetics portfolio enabling us to better serve customers in Europe"

Drs. B. Reichert, BaseClear adds: “The extension of our services with the EpiQuest service fits perfectly in our strategy to build a complete package of high quality genome analysis service. We are also excited about strengthening of our collaboration with Zymo Research and expect that joining forces in this fast developing field of research will allow us to add more services that would benefit to our customers in the near future.”

Orange, California, January 5, 2010 – Zymo Research Corp. announced today that the company has received the 2010 Frost & Sullivan Best Practices Award for Leadership in Epigenetics Product Quality.

“Frost & Sullivan proudly recognizes Zymo Research as the recipient of the 2010 North American Product Quality Leadership Award for Epigenetics. Zymo Research, a private company based in Orange, California, provides top quality products for nucleic acid purification and analysis, and the burgeoning field of epigenetics. Within these focuses, Zymo Research successfully competes with the largest of life sciences companies by constantly innovating and never compromising on quality. The company has fostered a stellar reputation amongst the research community for delivering the highest quality products that are easy to use and perform reliably. For its commitment to product quality and enabling more effective and precise research, Zymo Research is the ideal recipient of the Frost & Sullivan Product Quality Leadership Award.”

“All Product Quality Leaders share a strategy of continually updating products based on market and customer needs. While Zymo’s original EZ DNA Methylation™ kit remains one of the best-selling products on the market, the company has developed multiple updates to the original to improve features and cater to customer demands. Zymo launched the EZ DNA Methylation-Gold™ Kit to improve on processing speed, decreasing reaction time to less than three hours by consolidating steps. The EZ DNA Methylation-Direct™ Kit allows customers to perform conversion directly from cells, tissue, or blood, rather than requiring purified DNA as the input material. The EZ DNA Methylation-Startup™ Kit caters to the first-time user, providing an easy-to-use complete system for bisulfite treatment with controls and PCR amplification. Uniquely, Zymo offers the original, Gold™, and Direct™ kits in high-throughput (96-well) shallow-well or deep-well formats as many laboratories lack the instrumentation to handle deep-well formats. While other vendors only offer single column format conversion kits, by supplying a range of kits with various features, Zymo satisfies the specific needs and applications of various types of DNA methylation end-users. This obsession with product improvement has allowed Zymo to undoubtedly remain atop the market in both quality perception and market share.” Frost & Sullivan, http://www.frost.com.
