Job Summary:

We are seeking a highly motivated individual to join our research team. The candidate will work in close collaboration with leadership, as well as with Zymo upper management to develop (from concept to commercialization) new technologies to deploy in the research fields. The candidate will also be involved in the management of Research Associates and Interns.

The ideal candidate for this position is able to conceptualize, design, and execute scientific projects, is highly motivated and proactive, and can work independently, as well as in a team. The ideal candidate is also able to work in a multidisciplinary team, contribute to discussions and meetings with original ideas, and to communicate effectively with the rest of the team and the upper management. The ideal candidate has deep scientific knowledge (especially in the field of molecular biology and organic chemistry), excellent technical and communicational skills, and managerial experience.

You will be deeply involved in the innovation, development, and commercialization of technologies for research and clinical/diagnostics applications. Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Perform chemical synthesis for early research projects and for the development phase of chemical processes.
  • Lead the execution of major research initiatives and independently assess and conceptualize R&D projects.
  • Ensure overall feasibility and rationalization of proposed projects.
  • Conduct complex, high-level scientific research activities.
  • Optimize experimental procedures and update current SOPs.
  • Develop and write project protocols and methodology for developed research components.
  • Maintain a current knowledge of the literature and emerging trends in the discipline.
  • Read scientific literature pertaining to projects and apply relevant findings to research projects.
  • Contribute original ideas and initiatives to discussions and meetings.
  • Contribute and edit scientific content for newsletters, marketing efforts, and other related material.
  • Plan, assign, and oversee the work of Research Associates and Interns.
  • Provide guidance to junior team members in project execution.

 Education and Experience:

  • Robust scientific background, especially in molecular biology and organic chemistry.
  • D. degree in Molecular Biology, Chemistry, Biochemistry, Bioengineering, or a related field is required.
  • A minimum of two first-author scientific publications and at least two additional authored publications.
  • Proficient in well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, demonstrating the ability to establish highly functional relationships with diverse personalities both within and outside the company. Emphasis on an open, customer-focused communication style.
  • Prior industrial experience is not necessary but will be considered favorably.
  • A proven track record of designing, executing, analyzing, and trouble laboratory experiments.

Compensation:

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 per year at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
