Job Summary
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Supervisor) is responsible for performing moderate or high complexity laboratory tests, as defined by CLIA, in microbiology and molecular testing. Directs, supervises, and coordinates functions and activities in all aspects of the clinical lab.

Essential Job Functions and Desired Accomplishments
- Oversee and ensure the overall functioning of the clinical laboratory, including managing workflow, scheduling staff, and ensuring timely completion of tests and procedures.
- Ensure that all clinical testing complies with safety and CLIA/CAP guidelines.
- Must be onsite to provide direct supervision when high complexity testing is performed by any individual.
- Maintain effective communication with the team on day-to-day activities and on-going projects.
- Train and provide orientation to all laboratory personnel; review all associated training documents; and perform all evaluations of testing personnel performances.
- Troubleshoot highly complex problems that can adversely affect test performance.
- Be familiar with laboratory protocols and procedures for specimen processing, operating equipment and instruments, and data analysis.
- Manage inventory of laboratory equipment, reagents, and supplies. Coordinate maintenance and calibration of laboratory instruments and equipment.
- Perform laboratory testing and analyze test results accurately and efficiently, ensuring the accuracy and reliability of laboratory data.
- Conduct/coordinate with internal and external audits and report instances of noncompliance. Participate in all Quality Assurance and Quality Improvement efforts.
- Plan and perform assay validations/verifications; write summary reports.
- Conduct competency assessments and proficiency testing per CAP/CLIA guidelines.
- Implement quality control measures and review QC/QA metrics at least monthly.
- Keep up to date with advancements in laboratory science through continuing education.
Education/Qualifications/Certifications (Knowledge, Skills, Abilities, etc.)
- California State license as a Clinical Laboratory Scientist (Generalist) – Required
- Experience with molecular testing and next generation sequencing – Highly Desired
- A Bachelor or Master of Science Degree in a related field
- 3+ years of experience in Clinical Laboratory Science or related fields
- Excellent communication skills
- Excellent attention to detail and accuracy in record-keeping
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office and laboratory information systems (LIS)
- Demonstrated leadership qualities
Compensation:
- The estimated base compensation range for this position is $100,000 - $140,000 per year at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
