Post Doc Scientist/Protein Engineer

Job Summary:

Zymo Research is looking for a dynamic individual to join our Protein Team! As a Scientist at Zymo Research, you will work to develop proteins/peptides/enzymes in biotechnology field and use these biomolecules to develop solutions for different applications. You will perform and/or supervise the performance of laboratory and/or field experimental procedures in support of protein and enzyme research, and other related duties (e.g. business development, marketing, product development, and networking) as required. 

As a Scientist at Zymo Research you will have an opportunity to lead and/or work with a talented multidisciplinary team of scientists and researchers to develop tools that will affect and shape the biomedical industry. You will have an opportunity to innovate, develop, and deliver recombinant protein technologies from gene design to protein expression, purification, characterization and application.  As a Scientist, you will contribute to Zymo’s strategic planning and continuously be encouraged to explore new ideas as a part of navigating and innovating in this highly competitive field.  Zymo Research offers tremendous room for growth as we continuously explore new directions and expand.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Design and engineer protein variants with improved stability, affinity, and functionality.
  • Design and perform protein expression and purification for small- and large-scale production and process optimization.
  • Design and perform assays to characterize and optimize target products.
  • Produce documentation and data needed for product launch and marketing.
  • Present findings internally and externally and contribute to research publications.
  • Stay updated with the latest advancements in protein engineering and general biomedical field and bring innovative strategies to the team.
  • Carry responsibility for laboratory management and supervision of Research Associates, Laboratory Assistants, and Interns.
  • Communicate effectively with interdisciplinary teams.
  • Meeting regularly with the research team to discuss project progress.
  • Maintain complete handwritten reports (lab notebooks) on all phases of laboratory involved in research projects adhering to the Zymo Research Notebook Policy.

Education and Experience:

  • Strong background in molecular biology and biochemistry, with demonstrated skills in recombinant protein expression and purification.
  • Requires a Ph.D degree in Molecular Biology, biochemistry or related field.
  • Candidate should be competent in molecular cloning, microbial and cell culturing, and recombinant protein purification and characterization.
  • Requires at least one first author scientific publication.
  • Demonstrates well-developed written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills, with the ability to establish highly functional relationships with diverse personalities, both within and outside the company. Open, customer-focused style of communication.

 

Other Preferable Experience:

  • Experience with operating a bioreactor/fermenter.
  • Experience with protein conjugation.
  • Experience with assay development.

Compensation, Benefits, and Perks:

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $70,000 - $110,000 a year at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
