DNA/RNA transport medium for saliva

Description

DNA/RNA Shield Saliva Collection Kit is a DNA and RNA saliva collection kit designed for the collection and preservation of nucleic acids from saliva samples. This DNA and RNA saliva collection kit also takes a microbial snapshot of a sample while inactivating viruses making samples safe and ready for transport. Samples stored in the DNA/RNA Shield Saliva Collection kits are stable at ambient temperature, and can be frozen for longer-term storage. This DNA and RNA saliva collection kit simply requires users to deposit saliva into the spit cup, add the DNA/RNA Shield reagent, and shake vigorously to ensure proper stabilization.

A robust and sensitive assay was developed to screen for the 18S rRNA gene of Plasmodium falciparum and Plasmodium vivax from asymptomatic and low density infections. The new RT-PCR based method could detect malaria infections that were significantly lower than the standard microscopy and rapid detection method. DNA/RNA Shield was used to preserve patient’s blood samples in the field for 14 days at 28°C and 80% humidity.

The researchers sought to better understand the physiological importance of the non-sense-mediated mRNA decay (NMD) in murine Sertoli cells. Mice testes were preserved in DNA/RNA Shield and stored RNA isolation. The data revealed that the knockout of Upf2, which is part of the NMD pathway, resulted in testicular atrophy and sterility.

DNA/RNA Shield was used to store water collected onto filters and total RNA was isolated. A detailed metatranscriptomic analysis of the microbial communities points towards differing metabolic cycles occurring in anoxic and saline habitats in upper and deep sea regions respectively.

Reviews

“I’m a Zymo fan! DNA/RNA Shield is a great product. It works great on my precious samples. I trust Zymo Research products and they have great tech support!!”

- Laura T. (USDA)

“We use DNA/RNA shield and it works well with adults mosquitoes, larvae, eggs. We store it at RT for weeks and at -4°C or -20°C for months, never saw any DNA degradation.”

- Umberto P. (University of Pavia)

“I did an assay using RNA/DNA shield and it works perfect. The product have excellent reproducibility when stored at 4°C for up to a month.”

- Maha AE. (University of Florida)
