Essential Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ideate and develop novel microbiome applications focusing on human microbiome research.
  • Conduct, analyze, and present proof-of-principle studies to demonstrate feasibility and potential of new applications.
  • Design and implement comprehensive workflows in both wet-lab and dry-lab settings.
  • Develop and manage databases for effective organization and utilization of data, facilitating new discoveries through big data analysis.
  • Lead the commercialization process of developed applications, ensuring viable market entry and success.
  • Establish and maintain collaborations with key academic and industry players to enhance the application’s impact and reach.
  • Mentor and supervise junior Research Technicians, Associates, and Sr. Research Associates.

Education and Experience:

  • PhD in Microbiology, Bioinformatics, or related fields.
  • Proven experience or published research in human microbiome/metagenomics.
  • Strong bioinformatics skills, especially in microbiome/metagenome data analysis.
  • Proficiency in metagenomic taxonomy and functional analysis, metatranscriptomic data analysis, sequence assembly, binning, etc.
  • Familiarity with microbiome and metagenome tools and packages (e.g., Kraken, MEGAHIT, Qiime, Sourmash, etc).
  • Proficient in Linux/Unix environments, with experience in cloud computing.
  • Skilled in scripting languages such as Perl or Python.
  • Experience with R or other statistical tools.
  • Knowledge in database management and SQL.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Compensation:

The estimated base compensation range for this position is $80,000 to $90,000 per year at the time of posting. Actual compensation details will be provided in writing at the time of offer, if applicable, and is based on several factors we believe fairly and accurately impact compensation, including geographic location, experience, knowledge, skills, abilities, and other job permitted factors.
